The Perfect Dog Portrait Wins Top Prize for
I am Photo Photography
Southampton photographer picks up top prize for
Dog Portrait Photographer of the Year.
Photographer Iryna Russell of I Am Photo Photography studio has picked up a top award in a prestigious industry competition for her portrait photography skills.
Iryna, who owns the lifestyle photography business in West End, won in the Top Dog Location portrait category at the Xperience group awards ceremony recently.
Iryna is one of 13 overall winners in this year’s annual Xperience Awards, from more than 9000 entries.
Her subject - Border Collie Sky - has won a beautiful wall portrait of their image worth more than £500.
Iryna Russell said she was “delighted” to have won. The dog category was one of the biggest categories in the competition, so many fantastic images qualified for the final that any contestant could have won. I am so proud that my image was chosen as the overall best in category. To create my own style I always try to bring a creative aspect into my photography by using various natural elements and techniques to enhance the images.
That day the beautifully dramatic sky appeared as if by magic. I was able to picture in my head the image I wished to create and by using all my photographic skills gain from yeas of experience I was pleasantly surprise at the amazing final image.
Xperience chief trainer Mark Cleghorn, developed the awards to challenge members of The Xperience Group to ‘step outside their comfort zones and get even more creative every day’.
The group is made up of more than 100 photographic studios from across the UK and Ireland.
Mr Cleghorn said: “In a world now dominated by photography, thanks to the smart phone and all its technology, we make sure we push our professional photographers and their boundaries every day. Our secret is to inspire our clients, by creating images that they cannot take themselves. This is achieved using our mastery of light and our imagination, to give them unique wall art for their homes.
“Once again, I was blown away by the quality of entries this year from the Xperience photographers, and Iryna’s winning portrait was unanimous with the judging panel. The portrait is full of emotion with such a great expression, use of dramatic light, and a great use of colour.
All the winners will now have their work displayed on promotional material at trade shows and events across the UK as well as through our social media channels.
